This is Course 3 of the Program “Establishing a Data Management Function.”


This course is an advanced training course for data management professionals. This course has several objectives:

  • Share knowledge and assist in developing a data management strategy and/or roadmap
  • Explain key factors that influence the strategy design

This course provides only a high-level overview of a data management strategy. Various courses of the program, “Establishing a Data Management Function,” explain in detail various sections of the strategy.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Outline the content of a data management strategy
  • Start designing various data management capabilities

Course Content

Introducing the “Data Management Star” Implementation Method
This section provides a high-level overview of the “Data Management Star” implementation method and its Step 1. This method forms the basis for the program “Establishing a Data Management Function.” In this section, we introduce Step 2 of this method, “Defining a DM strategy and designing capabilities.

Developing a Data Management Strategy and Roadmap
In this section, we present the content of a data management strategy. The strategy must explain why a company needs it, what it must do to achieve its goals, and the high-level plans to accomplish them.

Designing a Data Management Capability
This section explains the method for designing a data management capability. A business capability defines what a company does. The six components of a business capability demonstrate the method to implement the capability.
